Lynn Blankenbaker Obituary

Somerset - Kenneth "Lynn" Blankenbaker, 75, of Somerset, formerly of Louisville, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset after a brief illness.

He was born on November 16, 1949 in Louisville, one of four sons born to the late William G. "Bill" Blankenbaker and Norma Lucille Gilliland Blankenbaker. Lynn as he was called by those who knew and loved him was disabled all of his life, however his infectious smile, vibrant personality and kindheartedness won the affection of those who loved and cared for him. In his younger years, Lynn enjoyed being around the farm, having a special bond with a horse and pony that he found solace and comfort being around. He also enjoyed riding and playing on the farm tractors, John Deere and Ford.

Lynn lived at home and attended Jefferson County Public Schools until the age of 18. He was one of the first persons enrolled in Special Education Classes in Jefferson County. At the age of 18 he moved to the Outwood Facility in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. Then, in 1972 he became one of the first residents at the Oakwood Facility in Somerset. Lynn was of the Baptist Faith and loved attending church services and participating in the hymn singing. He will be fondly remembered by his family, caregivers and those who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother; Randy Leland Blankenbaker.

He leaves behind to cherish his precious memory, two brothers; William Larry (Judy L.) Blankenbaker of Lexington, Kentucky and Wallace Lamar (Kay) Blankenbaker of Louisville, Kentucky, two nieces; Casey B. Tinker of Lexington and Emily Hennehan of Louisville, and one nephew; Andrew Blankenbaker of Louisville as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Lynn's family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Oakwood, who loved and cared for him from 1972 until his passing.

A Private Celebration of Life Service and Inurnment in the Rest Haven Cemetery will be held at a later date.
