Jean Rollins Obituary

Somerset - Jean Rollins, 88, of Pulaski County, passed away at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY.

Born Aug 2nd, 1936, Elsie Emogene New, refused to known as anything other than "Jean" since high school.

Jean was born as the first child to the late Herbert Logan and Marie Elizabeth (Nicholas) New along with her twin brother, Herbert Logan "Junior," Jr. New.

Jean played clarinet and was a Majorette in the Pulaski County High School marching band. She had a beautiful smile and bright, sparkling green eyes. She enjoyed swing dancing, spending time with her family, decorating her home and working in her yard. She was UK Basketball's number one fan and vocally supported them during every game while she watched on TV. She referred to them as "her Cats." She told the best stories and had an amazing laugh.

She took pride in the decade she worked as a tour guide at the Pulaski County Tourism Bureau. She loved her hometown and, to her last days, would spout facts and recommend places of interest upon meeting newcomers or visitors.

Jean was preceded in death by three of her four brothers: Larry New, Junior New, and Roland New, her husband Floyd "Fluter" Rollins and her grandson, John C. Pennington.

Jean is survived by her only daughter Terri Lynn (Hall) Pennington, son-in-law, Donald Pennington, granddaughters: Rachel D. (Pennington) Neuberger and Angela L. (Ware) Lawwil, Great-Grandchildren: Heather (Webster) Schweinzger, Stephanie (Webster) Frazier, Shelley Webster and Samson Neuberger, Brother and Sisters-in-law: Clarence & Coco New, Sharon New, Sally New and Pat New.

We rejoice that she is no longer in pain and is reunited with her loved ones in Heaven. We look forward to the day when we join her there.

In lieu of flowers, desired donations may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, P) Box 742 South Hwy 27, Somerset, Kentucky to aid in the rebuilding efforts following the recent tornado in Pulaski County.
