Jackie Spaw
Jackie Spaw, age 79, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was ready to go.
Jackie was born on June 23, 1940 in Mintonville, KY to the late Hollis Spaw and Myrtle "Mertie" Thompson Spaw. He was a proud 1959 graduate of Nancy High School and remained friends with all of his classmates. Jackie was a great story teller and was known for being a talker and extremely funny. He became a member of AA on 9-15-1979 for which he was very proud of his accomplishment. Jackie loved helping people and was very grateful that he was able to make amends with some people, especially his mom and dad. His favorite saying was, "If you have someplace to be you better leave, cause if you stand here and wait for me to finish you will lose a crop."
On November 14, 2018, Jackie was given two weeks to live. He talked with God and said, "Lord I didn't ask you to bring me into this world on June 23, 1940 and I'm not asking you to take me now, but when the time comes, I do ask if you could take me down easy." And God did this for Jackie. Thank you Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Jasper Spaw, whom he married on June 22, 2001 at Denham Street Baptist Church; one daughter, Angie Spaw of Somerset; two brothers, Cleo (and Judy Kay) Spaw of Nancy and Joe (and Dona) Spaw of OH; five sisters, Wanda Jean (and Don) Cox of OH, Artie Bradley of OH, Pricilla Teagarden of KY, Linda (and Bob) Williamson of FL and Sandra Bronson of FL; several grandchildren; one great grandson, Jude; many nieces and nephews; one special niece, Pam Spaw; and special friends, Lin (and Betty) Coner.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Freda Gibson; one brother, Pete Spaw; one infant brother, James Spaw; and a very special mother-in-law, Nora Jasper.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Junior Pitman officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Lake Cumberland and Home Health for all of their services during Jackie's illness.

Jack was such a special brother and we remained close throughout his life with our weekly phone calls. He would always pick up the phone and say, “How are you, girl?” That is a special memory I will never forget. We will see each other again someday in Heaven.

Dear Family,
My ex-husband was in AA. Jackie was always there— in every way to offer help. My deepest sympathy. I will always appreciate and be forever grateful for all of Jackie’s kindness. He was a wonderful man.
