Elvin Foster Obituary
Ringgold Community - Elvin Foster, age 80 of the Ringgold Community, passed from this life into his eternal home on Friday, September 19, 2025, at LCRH in Somerset.
He was born in Faubush, KY on October 3, 1944, to the late Dewey & Dorothy Jane (Ard) Foster. Elvin married his high school sweetheart, Gloria "Katie" Sadler on November 25,1966 in Somerset, KY. They shared over 58 yrs of marriage and had a total of over 62 yrs together. Katie survives him.
Elvin was the owner of Foster Rebuilders for over 40 years. He still believed a handshake and your word was all he needed to do business with anyone. He along with 3 of his brothers started the business in the small 2 car garage behind his residence and together they built a well respected business and had to build a bigger garage. "The Garage" was the meeting place for the siblings, and anyone else that wanted to come, to drink coffee together every morning and just talk. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Heritage Hope Church of God. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School for over 47 yrs and has been on the pastor's counsel for 26 years. If you knew Elvin, then you knew he loved the Lord, and if you didn't know, you would by the time you left. Elvin loved nature, camping, fishing, and hunting with his family. He was a member of the Backwoods Sportsman Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Turkey Federation. He was a veteran and proudly served in the United States Army. Elvin always said that we didn't have a host of relatives, we were more like a tribe or village because there were so many of us.
His survivors include his precious wife, Gloria "Katie" Sadler. He always called her his Katie Bell, baby, or his sweetie. They built their marriage with a Godly foundation and God was faithful to them. After 11 years of marriage their prayers were answered and they were blessed with one daughter, Jaime Lynn Foster. And she blessed him with the following grandchildren whom all argue that they are Ma and Paw's favorite; Austin (Kelsey May) Horner, Kaityln (Lucas) Cook, Ashtyn Dalton (Zach Terry), Rhonda Combs, Shonda (Chris) Skinner, and Kenneth "KJ" Banks. His greatest joy in life came when he became a GREAT Grandpa to his church going baby, Zaria Martin, "My Boys, the Twins" Kayson and Colter Horner, His "Lil Preacher Man," Weston Cook, his lil Doll-Doll and named after him, Evelynn Kay Cook, Hunter, Madilyn, and Blake Skinner, He is also survived by 3 brothers: Delvin (Lois) Foster, James "Jim"(Suzetta Harris) Foster, and Benny(Mary Lou) Foster.
Elvin was preceded in death by all of his parents,(he called his in-laws his 2nd mom and dad), Dewey and Dorothy Ard Foster and James and Delta (Crouch) Sadler; 4 Sisters, Alfreda (Dale) Stringer, Chestena (Virgil) Childers, Jewell (Curt) Calhoun & Catherine Elouise Foster; 3 brothers, William "Jerry"(Donna) Foster, Delmer "Sam"(Gladys) Foster, and Roger Foster; 1 sister-in-law, Teresa Marie Sadler White; 1 Brother-in-law, Dennis Girdler; 2 nephews, Ricky Calhoun and Lonnie "Ray" Hatfield Jr.; and 1 niece Sheila "Gail" Calhoun Philiips.
Elvin leaves behind his tribe of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends to mourn his passing. We have to acknowledge all of Elvin's adopted kids and grandkids that will miss him everyday of their lives too. There are too many to name because he was Daddy or Paw to everyone that walked into his home. He also leaves behind his best friend since grade school, Garvis Johnson and his precious service dog Kallie Marie, his love for that dog was a precious sight to witness. Special Thank you to Benny Foster, Janie Strunk, Marty, Donna, and Brandon Foster. We could never make it a day without you all. Your help with Dr appts and food, or anything we needed, you all were always there. Thank you Donna for doing everything you could to keep him here with us.
Pallbearers will be Austin Horner, Lucas Cook, Zach Terry, Bryan Foster, Brandon Foster and James "Bugzy" Combs.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 5-8pm & Friday September 26, 2025 from 9-11. Funeral services will begin at 11am with Bros. Johnny Dunbar and Billy Silverman officiating.
