Pulaski County - Dorothy C. Hughes, beloved daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Barnes, was born in Somerset, Kentucky on February 5, 1931. She departed this life on February 23, 2026, at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength.
Dorothy attended Ferguson High School, where she met Bobbie, her future husband, and the love of her life. They were united in marriage on January 3, 1948, and shared 77 wonderful years together — a beautiful testament to their enduring love and commitment.
Dorothy dearly loved her church family at Beacon Hill and was a faithful and devoted servant for as long as her health permitted. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life — with kindness, humility, and grace. She fully embraced her role as a homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. A talented seamstress like her mother before her, Dorothy found joy in sewing, cross-stitching, quilting, and a wide variety of handicrafts. She lovingly prepared delicious meals for those she cherished and took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens, where her green thumb was always on display.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Sandy (Jim) Evans of Somerset, Kentucky; her grandson, Benjamin Levi Evans of Somerset, Kentucky; her sister, Sharlene (Wayne) Eldridge; along with several nieces and nephews who will treasure her memory.
In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Bobbie Hughes, who preceded her in death on November 29, 2025, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joe Barnes and Jerry Barnes, and her sister, Irene Fox.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503.
The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Reynolds and Bro. Sam Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Sloans Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland in memory of Dorothy Hughes.
The family extends their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Cumberland Nursing and Rehab, as well as Dr. Golden and his staff, for the loving and compassionate care shown to Dorothy during the final days of her life.
