Virginia Calhoun Combs, age 88 of Bronston, Kentucky, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at her residence.
She was born September 28, 1928 in Virginia, daughter to the late Jeptha and Alta Kelly Calhoun. Virginia married her late husband; Herman Combs in Hazard, Kentucky, on September 27, 1946. She attended Lees Teacher College of Jackson, Kentucky. Virginia was a devoted Christian and member of Central Church of Nazarene in Dayton, Ohio, where she served on the church's board for a number of years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, helping others, and was a wonderful wife and homemaker. She was proud of her family and loved them with all of her heart and was known as the "neighborhood host." Anyone who knew Mrs. Combs could easily say she was an amazing mother, homemaker, teacher, and friend who had a passion to help anyone in need. She never minced words- everyone heard her opinion with love, "like it or lump it." She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband; Herman Combs, mother; Alta Kelly Calhoun, father; Jeptha Calhoun, brothers; Vernon Calhoun and Walter Calhoun. Great-grandchildren; Raelyn Angel and Caden Kevin McIntosh
Mrs. Combs is survived by her children; Brenda Combs Brown, Sydney Garnett Plummer, Nancy Combs (Rick) Feeback, and Billy (Jackie) Combs, grandchildren; Brian, Ansley, Jessica (Mark), Lindsay (Kris), Alaina, Holly, and Jacob, twelve great-grandchildren, treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, her "Alberta Street" Family and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Schlientz-Moore Funeral Home 1632 Wayne Avenue in Dayton, Ohio at from 5:00 O'clock p.m. to 8:00 O'clock p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Schlientz- Moore Funeral Home at 1:00 O'clock p.m. with Pastor Todd Hoskins and Mark Combs officiating. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.
