Ray Evans, age 63, of Somerset, husband of Trina Frye Chirico Evans, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset.
He was born on March 31, 1954 in Logan, West Virginia, son of the late Walter Jackson Evans and Ella Skeens Evans. Ray called himself a switzer boy that started work as a paper boy at the age of 11. He developed several friends and established meaningful friendships over the years. Upon graduating from Logan High School he entered into the United States Air Force. After his dedicated service to our country, he diligently pursued his career and earned his MBA degree. Ray worked as a Program Manager with the Federal Department of Justice and considered his employment as an honor again to serve his country.
Ray fought a courageous battle with Small Cell Lung Cancer and wrote his own obituary and final wishes while fighting the good fight of faith.
Besides his parents Walter Jackson Evans and Ella Skeens Evans, he was preceded in death by a brother; Carl Evans along with his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories; his loving wife; Trina Evans, his children; Lisa (Miranda) of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Ryan Michael of Richmond, Virginia, his step-children; Frank Chirico, Joshua (Audra) Chirico and Justin Chirico. Two granddaughters; Brianna and Eliana and step granddaughter; Natalie Gianna Chirico. Two sisters; Joan (Charles) Piercey of Paintsville, Kentucky and Barbara (Cheryl) Evans of Coventry Connecticut and a half-brother; Bernard (Edith) Frye of Sterling, Ohio. Along with his Mother in law; Dorothy Frye of Logan, West Virginia two sisters and brothers-in-law and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a host of many friends.
Ray's final words to everyone was "My final Chapter is goodbye to all". It was his wish that those he knew and loved him would give his wife support in her final tribute to him.
A graveside memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Highland Memory Gardens, Logan County, West Virginia with Rev. Bruce Lee Officiating.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Mr. Ray Evans.
