Norma Jo Collier Sears, age 80, of Nancy, KY., departed this life on Wednesday July 19, 2017 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Norma was born on May 16, 1937 in Cumberland, KY., to the late Bergeon and Oda Botkin Collier. She graduated from Barbourville City School in 1955. She attended Union College where she received her Bachelor's Degree and continued her education at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond where she received her Master's Degree. She started her teaching career in Bell County and taught several years at Pineville High School. After moving to Somerset, KY., she became the Librarian at Pulaski County High School. She attended Shopville Methodist Church.
Along with her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Andy Sears, a stepdaughter, Terry Richardson.
She is survived by her son, Doyle Ray Swanner (and Donna Fish) of Somerset, KY; one stepdaughter, Jan Brandenburg of Richmond, KY; two sisters, Betty Ann (Collier) Martin and Donnie of Barbourville, KY; and Bonnie (Collier) Handy and Tom of London, KY; four step-grandchildren, Justin (and Autumn) Richardson and their two children, River and Oakley; Jake and Cody Brandenburg, and Travis Richardson, Nieces and nephew, Chaz Martin and Diana, Dennie Beth (and Matt) Mills, Starr (and Amy) Handy.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2017 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will follow on Tuesday August 1, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with David Alexander officiating.
Burial will be in the Fellowship Burkhardt Cemetery.
