Jerry Rash, 70, died Wednesday, October 11,2017, at UK Hospital in Lexington. He was born in Somerset May 5, 1947, to the late Sylvia Godby Rash and Garner Rash. Grandparents were Rusha and Harley Godby and Zula and Thelmer Rash.
He is survived by his bride of 50 years, Julia Stokes Rash, who was his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. He adored his two daughters and their husbands, who he loved as sons. They are Jill Rash Stringer (Kevin) of Norris, Tn. and Joy Rash Ball (Gary) of Science Hill, KY. Three super-amazing grandchildren who were the light of his life, Kyle Ball, Science Hill, KY, Joshua Stringer, Somerset. KY and Kala Stringer of Norris, TN.
He also leaves behind special cousins, aunts, uncles, brother and sisters in laws, neighbors and former coworkers. He was a friend to many and a stranger to none.
Jerry was a Somerset Briar Jumper and was a member of the first class at Somerset Community College and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was past president of Somerset Jaycees and president of Pulaski County Fair Board. He was involved in many community events and loved to volunteer his time from selling Christmas trees to coaching Babe Ruth Baseball.
Jerry loved Lake Cumberland. He spent so many days, especially after retirement, sitting on his houseboat and cruising the lake with friends and family. He also spent over thirty years bass fishing in Canada. He loved his fishing buddies, even though most lie about how many fish they caught. He and his daughters loved their shared passion of the UK Wildcats and spent so many shared years watching and cheering them on.
A celebration of life for Jerry will be held at First Baptist Church in Somerset on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Visitation will begin at 10 am with funeral following at 2 pm. Officiating with be Jerry's nephew, John Mark Toby and his beloved pastor, French Harmon.
