George's Story

Mr. George John "Johnny Jay Bird" Lewis, age 81, of Burnside, passed from this life on Monday, June 19, 2017 at his residence.
He was born on January 17, 1936 in Sloans Valley, Kentucky to the late Otho and Oda Bray Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was a retired factory worker. During his free time, Mr. Lewis enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and hunting and harvesting ginseng. He was known as a quiet, outdoor loving gentleman.
George is survived by his wife; Joyce Hill Lewis of Burnside, three sons; Larron (Karen) Lewis of Muncie. Indiana, Allen Lewis & Bobbie Jo Alton of Burnside, Kentucky, and Kevin Lewis & Laurah West of Burnside, Kentucky, two brothers; James (Jenny) Lewis, and Gerald (Francis) Lewis, three sisters; Francis Johnson, Sandy Phelps, and Ann Childers, one sister-in-law; Betty Lewis, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive along with his dog, Sassy. Sassy was his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Oda Bray Lewis, one son; Dewayne Lewis, and one brother; Carol Lewis.
Visitation for Mr. Lewis will be on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM with service to follow at 1:00 PM all at the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Brother Dudley Bryant officiating. Burial will be held in the Sloans Valley Cemetery.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements of Mr. George John Lewis.
