Dallas's Story

Text size

Dallas Dwayne Hargis, 74, entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Friday, May 12, 2017.
Born in 1942 to Elmer and Edna & (Darrell) Hargis, Dallas grew up in Salt Lick, Kentucky on a farm. He graduated from Morehead State University with a B.S. in agriculture and geography in 1966. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda, in 1962 and eventually moved to Science Hill, Kentucky. Together, they bought a farm and simply enjoyed the cultivation, growing, and harvesting of crops, as well as, a good herd of cattle. He delighted in watching his loved ones taking part in this family tradition. He worked over thirty years for Farmers Home Administration where he was privileged to help many people get their start in farming. More than farming, was Dallas's love of his church and serving the Lord. He was blessed to serve as a Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of the Board at the church for many years, as well as, a Gideon for The Gideons International. The Science Hill Methodist Church has been his refuge and extended family.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Craycraft Hargis; daughter Julie Back; daughter-in-law Cindy Hargis; three grandsons Matthew Hargis (Mindy), Kyle Back, and Hayden Back; one great-grandson Josiah; four siblings Ron Hargis of Salt Lick, KY, Nancy Claiborne (Ron) of Ashville, OH, Mike Hargis (Teresa) of Salt Lick, KY, and Teresa Wathan (Asher) from Columbia, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Hargis; father and mother, Elmer and Edna Hargis; and brother Scotty Hargis.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Glen and Brenda Thomas of Owingsville, KY. He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law Hollie and Jewel Craycraft; and brother-in-law Jouett Craycraft.
This gentle and kind man's life will be celebrated on Monday, May 15th at two o'clock at the Science Hill United Methodist Church in Science Hill, Kentucky with Bro. David Green officiating.
Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at ten o'clock at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Gideon's International or the Science Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund.
