Carl W. Guffey of Alpha, Kentucky, passed away Sunday morning, May 28th at his home having attained the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 3 days. He was born in Narvel, Kentucky on July 25, 1920, the son of Samuel W. Guffey and Nora Marcum Guffey. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and lifelong member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Annette Perdue Guffey and three brothers, Velan Guffey, Virgil Guffey and Connie Guffey who died in infancy. He is survived by three daughters, Esther (Gayron) Thrasher, Albany, Kentucky, Sharon (Kenneth) Ward, Taylorsville, KY, and Sue (Mike) Owens, Albany, KY, four sons Jimmy C. (Sallie) Guffey, Alpha, Ky, Paul R. (Sue) Guffey, Somerset, Ky, Bobby D. (Linda) Guffey, New Albany, IN, and Jacky D. (Geraldine) Guffey, Alpha, Ky, a special friend Etta Bruce, Albany, Ky, 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.
Services will be conducted Thursday June 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. (C.S.T.) in the Chapel of Talbots's Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Burchett officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis Chapel Cemetery in Clinton County, Kentucky. The family will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, and again Thursday morning until time of service. Talbott Funeral Home of Albany, Kentucky is honored to be in charge of arrangements.
