Bill's Story

William Paul "Bill" Crockett, Jr., age 78, of Somerset, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
Bill was born on February 2, 1939, in Somerset, son of the late William Paul "Pete", Sr. and Evelyn Deweese Crockett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bill married Linda Ping on December 14, 1973, in Somerset. He was a graduate of the First Citizens Police Academy. Bill attended X-Ray Technician Training at Fort Sam Houston, in Texas. He worked many years as the X-ray technician for the Family Practice Clinic of Somerset, before retiring in 1998. Bill loved fishing and animals. He enjoyed watching U.K. Basketball, listening to Bluegrass music and learning about military history. Bill loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Billy Crockett (Melissa), of Somerset, and Sandra Suzanne Crockett, of Georgetown; his grandchildren, Josie Kaye Crockett and Lillian Ava Beggan; his brother-in-law, Donnie Ping (Sheryl); nephews and nieces, David Pike, Lisa Treado (Grant), Melissa McBryde (Robbie), all of Somerset, Cindy Sellers (Rich), of Norwood, Ohio, and Greg Ping, of Memphis, Tennessee; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bill in death are his parents; his son, William Hayden Crockett; his sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Roger Pike; his mother-in-law, Josephine Ping; and his brother-in-law, Paul Foster.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 27, 2017, after 6:00 p.m., at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory.
A Celebration of the Life of William Paul "Bill" Crockett, Jr. will be held Friday, July 28, at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Murrell Crockett and Keith McKim officiating. Interment will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503.
