Aster's Story

Aster C. Stacy, age 90, of Somerset, departed this life on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, KY.
His journey began on November 21, 1926 in Hazard, KY, as the fifth son of James and Helen Stacy. Aster joined the Navy at 16 and served his country from 1943-1946. He was stationed in the South Pacific on a ship between the Philippines and Okinawa when the bomb was dropped on Japan. He was one of our last few WWII Veterans.
Aster was a Salesman and Store Manager for Part Plus Inc. That job had his family moving over the years as he had the responsibility of getting several stores for the auto parts companies he worked with up and going. This became an adventure for him and his family. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Somerset.
He is survived by his soul mate, Ernestine Napier Stacy and they married on April 5, 1953 in Hazard, KY; his oldest daughter, Sharon Elaine (and Charles Glenn) Yonts of Somerset, KY; a son, Garry Wayne Stacy of Somerset, KY; his youngest daughter Tamela Sue (and Robert Patrick) Duff of Hazard, KY; two granddaughters, Katelyn Elizabeth Duff of Morehead, KY, Amy Rene Stacy of Louisville, KY; four grandsons, Charles Wesley Yonts of Lexington, KY, Adam Wayne Stacy of Berea, KY, Andrew Stephen Stacy of Berea, KY, Patrick Conor Duff of Knoxville, TN.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Bernal, Lawrence, Luster, and Walter Stacy; and a sister, Zola Stacy Knox.
A graveside service for family will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 12:30pm at the Mill Springs National Cemetery. A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Mill Springs Visitors Center & Museum with his beloved Pastor and friend, Bro. Don Jones officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at the visitor's center prior to the service. Military Honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #38.
