Alice's Story

Alice Elizabeth Kopenhoefer Wayman, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2017.
Alice was born in Somerset, Kentucky, on June 27, 1923 to Fred and Eva Kopenhoefer. As a teacher at Meece Middle School in Somerset, she touched the lives of a generation of students. Prior to her death, Alice was the oldest living member of First Presbyterian Somerset. She saw each new day as a gift from God. Outgoing and generous, she enjoyed being with friends and was an avid bridge player. She started the Somerset Duplicate Bridge Club in 1963, and it endures to this day. She was an energetic fan of UK basketball and loved the music of Frank Sinatra.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law Katie Wayman, and her grandson, Tim Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Byassee, son, Michael Wayman, granddaughters Rachael Stewart and Holly Johnson, grandson, Martin Wayman, son-in-law, Sam Byassee, her son's fiancée, Paula Day,
grandson-in-law, Chris Stewart, granddaughter-in-law, Melody Wayman, and dear friend Pam Hamilton.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at First Presbyterian Somerset. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the church, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Interment will be in Somerset Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Presbyterian Somerset, Hospice of Lake Cumberland, or the Somerset Duplicate Bridge Club.
