Leonard "Wilford" Purcell, age 80, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017.
Wilford was born on April 1, 1937 in Pulaski County to the late Leonard Wilford Purcell and Beulah Faye Randolph Purcell. In 1980, he was ordained and became a Deacon at Sunnyside Baptist Church. He was very involved with his church, serving as a Clerk and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed farming and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Wilford also served 43 years in the Army National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Sizemore Purcell, whom he married on October 24, 1963 in Jellico, TN; one son, Michael Allen Purcell; one daughter, Valerie Lynn Purcell; three grandchildren, Nathan Michael Purcell, Jiselle Lynn Purcell and Tarah Jiselle (and Clay) Muntz; three great grandchildren, Elijah Clay Muntz, Ella Kate Muntz and Emery Grace Muntz; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Royce Purcell; and one sister, Helen Bumgardner.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jonathan Logan and Bro. Rick Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Barnesburg Cemetery.
