Sam's Story

Sam Cornett, age 69, of Detroit, Michigan passed from this life suddenly on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 
He was born on February 8, 1948 in the Dizney Community of Harlan County, Kentucky, son of the late Dennis Lee Cornett and Sudie Mae Jones Cornett. 
Sam was a Self employed Construction Worker prior to becoming disabled. He was kind and gentle man that enjoyed life to its fullest. He was of a member of the Detroit Highwaymen M/C for 30 years. Sam enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends. Sam was a handy-man type of person that was always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. 
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a Son; Tommy Cornett, his Siblings; Milton Cornett, William Cornett, Henry Cornett, Tommy Cornett Doris Hoagland, and Mellie Parks, Sister in law; Elizabeth Ann Cornett and Brothers in law; Windell Bruce and Ollie James Howard.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories; a Son; Sam Cornett, Jr. of Detroit Michigan, Daughter; Michelle Dodson of Louisville, Kentucky, Brothers; Jesse Cornett of Harlan, Kentucky, Roy (Hazel) Cornett of Austin, Indiana, Sisters; Wanda (James) Washington of Pekin, Indiana, Callie Bruce of Borden, Indiana, Frederika Howard of Deputy, Indiana and Manda (Tommy) Lyles of Somerset, and 6 Grandchildren as well as a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other Relatives and Friends.  
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 3:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Cornett, Jr. Officiating. 
In Lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made to the Sam Cornett Memorial Fund in care of Southern Oaks Funeral Home, 2110 West Highway 914, Somerset, Kentucky. 42503.
