Roy Lee Black, age 73, of Somerset, KY., departed this life on Saturday August 5, 2017 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.
Roy was born on April 7, 1944 in Delta, KY., to the late Haynes and Verdie Godsey Black. He loved being outdoors, loved ginseng and mushroom hunting with his sons. He enjoyed working on cars with his son Jr., doing carpentry work, cutting timber, watching western television shows, listening to gospel music, and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Elsa "Christeen" Black, of whom he married on June 8, 1963 in Monticello, KY; two sons, Roy Lee Black Jr. (and Kim) of Science Hill, KY; James (and Diane) Black of Science Hill, KY; three daughters, Debbie (and Mark) Holmes of Nancy, KY; Barb (and Rick) Meece of Somerset, KY; and Kim Black of Somerset, KY; two brothers, Ronnie Black of Eubank, KY and Carl Black of Indiana; two sisters, Barbara Sue Bishop of Indiana; and Betty Black of Eubank, KY; six grandchildren, Courtney Catron, Keisha Wyatt, Hunter Black, Dylan Jones, Zachary Black, and Madison Black, and three great-grandchildren, Ella Catron, Sawyer Catron, and Alex Wyatt.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Black and Jerry Black, a sister, Verline Kinser, and an infant sister.
Visitation will be on Monday August 7, 2017 at 5:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral will be on Tuesday August 8, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Eric Criswell and Bro. Donald Kennedy officiating. Burial will be at Taylor Cemetery.
