Rosendo "Sal" Salazar passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at his residence, in Somerset, following a determined fight with cancer. He was 81.
"Sal", as everyone knew him by, was born in Mexico. After the death of his parents when he was young, family members raised him and his siblings in San Gabriel, California.
He graduated from San Gabriel High School in 1956, as a proud Matador alum. After graduation, he joined the Air Force. When his service time was up, Sal relocated to Dayton, Kentucky. He was first employed by REA Express. While living in Dayton, he met a beautiful, young elementary school teacher, Linda Flora, of Bellevue, Kentucky. "The rest is history!" They were united in marriage on November 28, 1968.
Sal is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Flora Salazar; one daughter and son-in-law, Sallie Salazar Pierce and Kevin Pierce; two grandsons, Cameron and Cohl; a brother, Ray (and Gloria) Salazar; a special sister-in-law, Marie Flora Babin; a brother-in-law, Ben (and Margie) Flora; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by "his other daughter', Stacey Sprague Rust, her husband, Chris and their three sons, Chay, Connor and Curtis.
He was always honored by being called "Uncle Sal" or "Uncle Randy", but his proudest title was "Pappy". He was a trustworthy man who loved his family and friends. He always looked out for his neighbors. Sal enjoyed Somernite Cruises, old cars and walking at the mall with his "mall buddies". He will be greatly missed by many, but so many more are blessed to have known him.
Sal's wishes were to be cremated. The family will hold a Memorial Service on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Langdon Street Baptist Church, with Bro. Jerry Chandler officiating.
