Orville's Story

Orville A. New, age 85, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017, at his residence.
Orville was born on February 26, 1932, in Ferguson, son of the late Joseph Elliott and Melville Sandifer New. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, earning two Battle Citations, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Meritorium Unit Commendation for his service. He was also a member of the Company A 519th Military Police Battalion 3rd Armored Division. Orville married Wilda Quinton on January 31, 1958. He was the owner and welder for New's Welding Shop. Orville raised and sold Walker Fox Hounds throughout the United States, and earned the title of 1967 National Fox Hunting Champion. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed relaxing in his back yard, visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Eddie New (Peggy), Ronnie New (Lisha), and Danny New, all of Somerset; his brother, Johnny New, of Somerset; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Orville is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilda Quinton New; his son, Richard "Rick" New; brothers, Charlie, Homer, Clarence, Robert, James, Walter "Babe", and Joseph New; and his sister, Alvina Kennedy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory.
A Celebration Honoring the Life of Orville A. New will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Raymond Ridner officiating. Interment will be in Science Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
