Mr. Nelson Gerald Lovins, age 87, of Somerset, passed from this life on August 12, 2017 at the Cumberland Nursing and Rehab Facility.
Nelson was born March 6, 1930 son to the late William Nelson and Minta Mae Cromer Lovins. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge #111 in Somerset. Previously, he was a Deacon for First Baptist Church in Blanchester, Ohio, an Oleika Temple Shriner, and a graduate from Somerset High School. Nelson also served as a Kentucky Colonel. He had a passion for developing and building things, as he was self-employed to engage in this passion. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his son; Larry Gerald Lovins, daughter; Kimberly L. Loveless, brother; Joe William Mink, sister; Heaster Rowe, and a grandson; David Irvin Rader.
Mr. Lovins is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. Wood Lovins, whom he married on April 9, 1949, in Somerset, Kentucky, son; Rodger Dean (Karen) Lovins of Somerset, daughter; Pamela L. (David) Rader of Hillman, Michigan, brother; Dean (Gatha) Lovins of Somerset, sister; Vee Doan of Blanchester, Ohio, 8 plus grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 6 o'clock p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 10 o'clock a.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Brown and Pastor Gary Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Somerset.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
