Mattie Ann Perkins, age 90, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at her residence.
Mattie was born on March 13, 1927 in Pulaski County, KY to the late Madison Gilmore and Frances Evans Gilmore. She was a member of South Maple Street First Baptist Church where she worked with missionaries, on the culinary committee and sang in the choir. Mattie worked as a LPN at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for 25 years, before retiring in 1989. She was a T.O.P.S. member for over 20 years, Homemaker's member and a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and sewing.
She is survived by a son, David (and Alice) Perkins of Somerset; two daughters, Connie (and Albert) Green of Somerset and Phyllis Duncan of Monticello; two sisters, Willena Fitzpatrick of Somerset and Christine Olds of Louisville; nine grandchildren, Phillip (and Nancy) Duncan, Michael Duncan, Tracey (and Samuel) Bess, Stacey (and Robin) Duncan, Sylvia (and Robert) Burbridge, Marrisha Green, David Perkins Jr., Delectrice Perkins and Lakisha Perkins; fifteen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Perkins, whom she married on September 9, 1950 and he preceded her on May 7, 2007; one son, James Perkins; a son-in-law, Willie Duncan; two brothers, Luther Gilmore and John Gilmore; and three sisters, Stella Middlebrook, Jessie Waters and Loretta "Louise" Young; and one grandson, Jerrion Green.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 30, 2017 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at South Maple Street Baptist Church.
Mattie's funeral service will follow on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 1:00pm at Maple Street Baptist Church with Bro. Yusef Franklin and Bro. James Barleston officiating. Burial will be at Stanford Pike Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Martinez, Mitch Gaines, Anthony Gaines, Samon Gardener, Shawn Sandusky, George Mills Jr. and Honorary Pallbearers will be Virgil Perkins, Johnny Perkins, Jeff Perkins, Rodney Sandusky, George Mills Sr., George Gilmore Sr. and Buddy Jamison.
