Kenneth's Story

Kenneth Ray "Lightning" Neeley, Sr., 72 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Mercy Hospital.
Ray was born May 1, 1945, in Kidder, KY and came to South Amherst in 1965.
Ray was a stone cutter for the Cleveland Quarries in South Amherst and retired after 40 years of service. He was a member of Freedom House Pentecostal Church in Amherst. He had a lifetime passion for bluegrass music. He enjoyed lawn care, farming, hunting, gardening, and helping those in need.
Survivors include his wife of two years Martha Marie Collins Neeley; his son Kenneth Ray Neeley, Jr. of Elyria; his daughters Jane (Jeff) Kepic of Avon Lake; Darla Neeley of Sheffield Lake; Rebecca (and Scott) Neeley-Rollins of Avon Lake; his step sons John W. Howard of Wakeman; Robert Howard of South Amherst; five grandchildren Stephanie Kepic, Ethan Neeley, Shawn Rollins, Andrew Rollins, and Emily Rollins; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his brothers Herbert Neeley of Somerset, KY; Floyd (Rosie) Neeley of Monticello, KY; and his sisters Betty Troxtle of Somerset, KY; Della Mae (and Newdeal) Branscum of Bronston, KY.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife of thirty four years Margaret Ruth Whiteman Neeley; his siblings Donald, Marvin, Lowell, Dewey, Doris, Josephine Burton, Gladys Troxtle, Brenda, and Abby; as well as his parents John and Jane Morrow Neeley.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Ulanda Price officiating. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery in Kidder, KY.
