Jewel B. Merrick, age 97, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 3, 2017 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland, with family by her side. She was born on February 6, 1920 to Everett and Bessie (McCurdy) Stevens in Toledo. On July 19, 1941, Jewel married the love of her life, John E. Merrick. She was a hairdresser for many years, owning her own salon in her home. Jewel attended Grace Baptist Church in Somerset, KY after moving to live with her daughter in Eubank, KY. Her desire was to serve the Lord, wherever she was. When living in Toledo Jewel attended and taught Sunday School at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Her hobbies were traveling with her husband, enjoying family, grandchildren, cooking, crocheting and being with her Christian friends. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 80 years, John Merrick: son, Thomas Merrick; several great grandbabies, 2 sister and 4 brothers. Jewel is survived by her loving children, Beverly Lawson, of Eubank, KY, Lynn Hardy, of Crossville, TN, Robert (Beth) Merrick, of Sylvania, OH, Rev. Larry (Karen) Merrick, Shepherdsville, KY; daughter-in-law Terri Merrick, of Toledo; 2 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Interment was in Toledo Memorial Park, Toledo, OH on October 10, 2017. In loving memory of her there will be a memorial Service October 27, 2017 at 6 pm at Grace Baptist Church, 340 Oak Leaf Lane, Somerset, KY. Officiate by Pastor Bill Haynes.
