Gwendolyn "Gwen" Girdler, age 96, of Somerset, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
Gwen was born on November 18, 1921, in Somerset, daughter of William Lee and Bessie Mae Hines Girdler. She joined the First Christian Church of Somerset in 1938, when Rev. Lee Davis Fisher was presiding pastor. Gwen was a member of the Somerset High School Class of 1940. She was a graduate of the Miami Valley School of Nursing, in Dayton, Ohio. Gwen worked in the nursing field in Somerset until her retirement.
She is survived by her nephews, Roland J. Girdler, Jr. (Marcia), of Conway Arkansas, Jeffrey L. Girdler (Leonila), of Beebe, Arkansas, Neal N. Girdler (Erin), of Tucson, Arizona; her niece, Maribeth Girdler, of Salem, Oregon; five great-nephews; two great-nieces; and many close friends.
Preceding Gwen in death are her parents; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman L. and Betty Girdler and Roland J. and Mildred Girdler.
Visitation will be Friday, December 22, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., in the Somerset Undertaking Company Chapel.
A Celebration of the Life of Gwendolyn "Gwen" Girdler will be held on Friday, at 11:00 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Steve Lesher officiating. Interment will be in Somerset Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Somerset, where she took a very active part in visitation and quilting ministries, or to the charity of your choice, in memory of Gwen.
