Dorothy's Story

Dorothy M. Hughes, age 98, of Somerset, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017, at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
Dorothy was born on March 24, 1919, in Somerset, daughter of Ernest Albert and Della Silvers Denham. She worked 20 years for the United States Postal Service as Assistant Postmaster of Ferguson. Dorothy was the oldest member of Ferguson Baptist Church, where she worked many years in the church library. She loved to embroider, and loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Jane Ellen Hinkle, of Somerset, Norma Dick, of Somerset, James Edward "Jimbo" Hughes (Linda), of Ferguson, Donald Earl Hughes (Sue), of Loveland, and Ann Carol Page (Butch), of Leesburg, Florida; her grandchildren, Cherry Purdy (Michael), David Hinkle, Nancy Ann Williams, Paula Knuckles, Barry Dick (Lisa), Catrinia Hale (Tim), Robby Hughes (Laura), Ruth Hughes, Neal Hughes (Hillary), Libby Bolton (Andy), J.B. Hughes (Morgan), Ted Hughes, Julie Page (Jason) and Jeremy Ross Page (Michelle); twenty-five great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents; her husband, Ross "Booner" Hughes; her siblings, Ruth Ronsheim, Maxine Taylor and George Earl Denham; and her grandson, Tim Hughes.
Visitation will be Monday, October 30, 2017, beginning at 11:00 a.m., in the Somerset Undertaking Company Chapel.
A Celebration of the Life of Dorothy M. Hughes will be held Monday, at 1:00 p.m., following the visitation, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Vance officiating. Interment will be in Somerset Cemetery.
