Dewey R. Meece, age 76, of Somerset, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Dewey was born on September 18, 1941, in the Ruth Community of Pulaski County, son of James W. and Thelma Tomlinson Meece. He was a retired over the road truck driver, working for many years with U.S. Express and Pemberton Truck Lines. Dewey earned commendations for his driving with both companies, being named "Driver of the Month" with U.S. Express and "5 Years Safe Driving" with Pemberton. He enjoyed motorcycling, building birdhouses and horses. Dewey was a member of East Somerset Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Vanover Meece, whom he married on April 27, 1991, at Slate Branch Baptist Church; his daughters, Andrea Louise Meece Napolitano (Charley), and Anita Joy Meece; his son, Philip Ryan Meece (Julie Ann); his step-son, Arlis Burdine (Stephanie); brother-in-law, Wayne Meece; grandchildren, Randi, Jacob, Cierra and Dalton; step-grandchildren, Haven Denise, Gunner and Sera; and great-grandchild, Kayden Thomas Meece.
Dewey is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Gleoria Meece.
Visitation will be Monday, January 1, 2018, after 5:00 p.m., in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company.
A Celebration of the Life of Dewey R. Meece will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Jerry Burnett officiating. Interment will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, in Stanford. Pallbearers will be Phil Meece, Arlis Burdine, Charley Napolitano, Jacob Meece, Robert Rye, Pete Peters, Haven Burdine and Randi Meece.
