Jesse "Clell" Whitaker age 89, of Somerset Kentucky, passed from this life on Saturday, November 4th 2017 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on May 7th 1928 in Shopville Kentucky, the son of the late Lum and Alma Herrin Whitaker.
Clell was a member of and a Deacon of Flat Lick Baptist Church; where he also served as a Sunday School Teacher.
He retired from Southern Belle Dairy, after 40 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Shopville High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. He also attended and played basketball at Lindsey Wilson College.
Clell is survived by his wife, Gladys Hargis Whitaker, whom he had been married to for 67 years. They were married on October 21, 1950 in Somerset, Kentucky. He is also survived by one daughter Donna & (Tommy) Turner, two sons Darrell and (Patricia) Whitaker; Jeff and (Nettie) Whitaker, all of Somerset, Kentucky. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Chris and (Dorinda) Turner; Daon and (Travis) Creech; Nicole and (Greg) Blevins; Heather Whitaker Coffey and Jesse Whitaker.Nine great grandchildren, Allen Cline; Blake Turner; Allie Blevins; Alex Creech; Tensley Cofey; Addison Blevins; Aizlyn Creech; Tristan Turner and Ansley Blevins.
He is also survived by one brother Gene and (Sue) Whitaker, and a sister-in-law Wilda Whitaker. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ella B. Phelps; Mavis Hargis; Joann Hargis; Wayne Lee and (Nadine) Phelps; Wayne and Jetta Richardson and Carlos Hargis.
He was procedded in death by two brothers; Edwin Whitaker and Charles Whitaker. Also by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ray and (Vera) Hargis, Arnold and (Imgene) Stogsdill; Violet and (Dewey) Hargis; Harold and (Betty) Hargis; Howard Hargis; Wayne Hargis and Phillip Phelps.
He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Randall-Herrin Cemetery in Shopville.
Visitation for Mr. Clell Whitaker will be after 6 PM Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Pulaski Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Randall-Herrin Cemetery Fund.
