Charles Burdine Charles O. (Kip) Burdine, age 75, died after a sudden illness on September 6, 2018, in Somerset, Kentucky. Kip is survived by Judy (Smith) Burdine, his wife of 55 years; his son Chuck Burdine of Somerset, Kentucky, and his daughter Becky Burdine and her husband Marc Schwartz, and their children Sophie and Donovan Schwartz of Princeton, New Jersey; his sister Geraldine Mize of Lexington, Kentucky; his sister Aundra Whitaker, and her husband C.L., of Somerset, Kentucky, and his brother David Burdine, and his wife Judy, of Somerset, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Bethel Burdine, of Somerset, Kentucky, and Mary Gathlyn "Tootsie" Eldridge of Squib, Kentucky, and his brother James "Jim" Burdine of Somerset.
Kip was born at home on September 15th, 1942 in Squib, Kentucky, to parents James C. Burdine and Olga Lea Decker. His childhood stories were filled with his brothers and sisters, and the outdoors he loved. He was proud to have graduated from Shopville High School. He attended the University of Kentucky and then Sue Bennett College where met his future wife, Judy E. Smith, from London, Kentucky. They moved to Harlan, Kentucky where he worked for Kern's Bakery for the next three years. Kip and Judy then moved to Richmond, Kentucky to continue their education at Eastern Kentucky University. Kip graduated from Eastern in 1967 with a degree in Accounting, and later became a licensed C.P.A. Following graduation, he accepted a position with Yeager, Ford, and Warren in Somerset, Kentucky as an accountant. He held various positions throughout his career including terms at First and Farmers National Bank, The Bank of Mount Vernon, Citizens National Bank, and Somerset Refinery. After retirement he spent time on his cherished farm in the Valley Oak Community where he was active in the Flat Lick Baptist Church, serving as a trustee. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and participating in the Good Ole Boys Breakfast Club at the Shopville Gym. Kip was a great family man and a loving father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his smile and his engaging joy in life.
The visitation will be at 6pm on Saturday, September 8th at the Pulaski Funeral Home. A funeral is scheduled for 2pm at the Pulaski Funeral home on Sunday, September 9th followed by internment at Flat Lick Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Gerald Ashley will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kip's life.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to Flat Lick Baptist Church to support programs he worked on including the children's playground and the new cemetery.
