Bessie Lee Nave Peters Martin, age 94, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.
Bessie Lee was born on March 1, 1923, in Stanford, Lincoln County, Kentucky, daughter to Leonard David Nave, Sr. and Salatia Francis Leigh. She married Kenneth Fred Peters on August 12, 1939, in London, Laurel County, Kentucky, and the couple resided in Somerset. There children were Kenneth Fred, Jr., Sandra Kay (Brans), Marvin Lee "Buddy", Marsha Gay (Blevins), Franklin "David" and Melvyn Jeffrey "Jeff". She married Edmond Hugh Martin "Ed", on May 5, 1983, in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Kentucky.
Bessie had four brothers, Joseph P. Nave, Sr., Ralph Waldo Nave, Gorham M. Nave and Archie Wilson "Buster" Nave. She had six half-sisters, Jessie Lee Nave, Carrie T. Nave, Evorie Elizabeth "Betty" Nave, Isabell L. Nave, and Lily B. Nave; and two half-brothers, James Allen Nave and Leonard David Nave, Jr.
Bessie was a member of High Street Baptist Church, and their Polly Anna Class, Francis Watson Circle and the Lottie Moon Class. She was a member of the Minnie Jo Lodge No. 723, Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. She was also a member of Fidelis #545, Order of the Eastern Star. Bessie was a seamstress and worked out of her home, except for a short time, when she worked at Palm Beach. She worked for a couple of years helping her sister-in-law, Kathleen Sweetheart Peters, at Sweetheart's Florist. Bessie enjoyed crocheting, floral gardening and traveling.
Bessie is survived by four children; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her four brothers; her sons, Kenneth Fred, Jr. and "Buddy"; two grandsons; and one great-grandchild.
A Celebration of the Life of Bessie Lee Nave Peters Martin will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., in the Somerset Undertaking Company chapel, with Bro. Steve Hall officiating. There will be an Eastern Star Funeral at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel. Pallbearers will be Bessie's grandsons and great-grandsons.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, in the Somerset Undertaking Company chapel, from 11:00 a.m., until time for services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to High Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
